WELCOME U TURN TRAVEL CROATIA DESTINATION EUROPE CROATIA

With its sublime stretch of Adriatic coast, Croatia has long been regarded as one of the most beautiful parts of Europe. The booming tourist industry that was interrupted by war in the early 1990s has swept back in force, and visitors are flocking to its string of coastal and island resorts

Dubrovnik's appeal lies in the old town of Stari Grad, with its marble-paved squares, steep cobbled streets, tall houses, convents, churches, palaces, fountains and museums, all cut from the same light-coloured stone. Although Dubrovnik was heavily shelled in 1991 and '92, it has been largely restored.
Dubrovnik's city walls were built between the 13th and 16th centuries, and are still intact today. Arguably the finest city walls in the world, they are 25m (82ft) high, with 16 towers. You can't beat the view, and a walk along the walls will probably be the highlight of your visit to Dubrovnik.

Zagreb, Croatia's capital since 1557, is finally coming into its own as an intriguing combination of Eastern and Western Europe. The sober Austro-Hungarian architecture in the town centre houses newly opened boutiques displaying the latest fashions from France and Italy.

Mljet Island
Of all the Adriatic islands, Mljet may be the most seductive. Over 72% of the island is covered by forest and the rest is dotted by fields, vineyards and small villages. Mljet National Park occupies the island's western third and includes gentle coves and a pair of saltwater lakes. Most people visit this tranquil island oasis on excursions from Dubrovnik.
The highlights of the island are Malo Jezero and Veliko Jezero, the two lakes on the island's western end connected by a channel. Veliko Jezero is connected with the sea by the Soline Canal, which makes the lakes subject to tidal flows. In the middle of Veliko Jezero is an islet with a Benedictine monastery; it was originally built in the 12th century but has been rebuilt several times, adding Renaissance and baroque features to the Romanesque structure.

Weather Overview
The climate varies from Mediterranean along the Adriatic coast to continental inland. The sunny coastal areas have hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The high coastal mountains help to shield the coast from cold northerly winds, making for an early spring and a late autumn. In Zagreb, average daily high temperatures peak at 27°C (80°F) in July and drop to 2°C (35°F) in January

Modello" Palace
The Modello Palace, another product of the Helmer and Fellner workshop, was completed in 1885. Quiet Neo-Renaissance decorations alternate with playful Neo-Baroque ones on its facades. The abundant decorations of the exterior are repeated in the interior as well, particularly in the stuccos of the ceremonial hall. The palace illustrates the ambitions of Rijeka to imitate the Ring of Vienna, and to incessantly compete with Trieste. Today the building houses the Central City Library and the cultural centre of the Italian minority, the popular Circolo italiano di cultura.
Continuing your visit to the west you will find yourself at one end of Rijeka harbour, built in the second half of the 19th century.

Main Market
Across the square from the theatre begins the complex of the Large Market pavilions. The first two of these were erected in 1880 by I. Vauchnig. His design was only seemingly historicist, because the use of iron construction and large glass panes already heralded the new style in architecture. The interior of these pavilions has been completely changed, however, by various divisions and use of inappropriate materials. The original aspect of the interior, with open roof construction and lateral galleries, can be seen in the last of the three pavilions, the main city fish market today, designed at the beginning of the 20th century by C. Pergoli. Its abundant stone decorations and imaginative figures of fish and molluscs by U. Botasso are worth seeing as well.
